Slated to become the next big thing in megacities and master-planned metropolitans second only to Metro Manila, Pampanga has come a long way from being simply called the country’s culinary capital.
Undoubtedly known for its gastronomic treats and epicurean delights, Pampanga is known to be the best province in Central Luzon for weekend food trips and intrepid excursions. Food aside, however, Pampanga has proven to be one of the most promising areas in Luzon in terms of business and tourism. In this regard, many prospective homeowners have set their eyes on the culinary capital as the potential place for their permanent residence.
Inevitably, the traffic and congestion of Metro Manila have constrained residents to look for a fresh living space of even a second home away from the relentless hustle and bustle of the city and its resulting air and noise pollution.
To address this demand, many real estate developers have taken on a new endeavor to pepper periphery cities with new residential projects and developments. Pampanga, being a place in proximity to Metro Manila, has become increasingly attractive to families who are in search of an alternative lifestyle that does not involve contending with daily traffic.
Indeed, while Metro Manila remains the center of it all, its lack of open and green spaces, population congestion, pollution, and ever-worsening state of traffic make it the less desirable place to live in. Pampanga offers the welcome of suburban living without having to forgo all the modern conveniences of a major metropolitan.
With real estate developments strategically located and built with sustainability in mind, prospective residents are treated to an elevated kind of lifestyle that might just surpass their current one.
FACTS ABOUT PAMPANGA
– The Spaniards named the province “La Pampanga” because they found the early natives living near river banks. The name is also fitting, considering it is a flat country crisscrossed by a hundred small Pampanga River branches.
– Pampanga once served as the archipelago’s capital for two years from 1762-1764 during the British invasion of Manila.
– History shows evidence that the province of Pampanga itself is a descendant of what was known back then as the Kingdom of Tondo (or the Luzon empire).
– It has been believed and theorized that Kapampangans (natives of Pampanga) are distinct from the Tagalogs linguistically. It is said that they have descended from the migrants of the Malang Region in Central Java.
– Pampanga earned its claim to fame of being the country’s culinary capital even back then. During the Spanish period, the province was pivotal in supplying food and forced labor, and lumber for the Spanish colony. Rice was produced in abundance and was levied as a tribute.
– Pampanga was one of the first Philippine provinces to join the revolution of 1896, with San Fernando serving as the temporary capital of the Philippine Republic in 1899.
– Although Kapampangans share the culture and traditions of the lowland Filipinos and their Tagalog neighbors to the east and south, they speak their own distinct language, a source of their ethnic pride.
